The Akari Seiki HS-450i expandable horizontal performance machining center is equipped with a Fanuc 31i NANO control; a Tsudakoma full fourth axis; a 30-hp, 15,000-rpm spindle; an 80-station ATC; and 400-mm pallets. The 26,000-lb machine accommodates workpieces as large as 29.5" × 39.4", offering X-, Y- and Z-axis travels of 25.2" × 24" × 26.8". Pallet load capacity is 1,100 lbs on each pallet. The machine’s THK roller ways help deliver axial rapid traverse rates of 2,362 ipm and axis acceleration/deceleration rates of more than 1G. Tool change time is 0.9 sec.

This machine design offers the ability to enable a two-pallet, 80-tool machine to expand to a six-pallet machine with a variety of tool storage capacities (120 and 220 tools as options). That way, the machine can be used either for small-lot production runs or long-term unmanned operations.
