The You Ji VMT-800 turn-mill, available from Absolute Machine Tools, is a multitasking machine designed for oil, gas and aerospace manufacturing applications. According to the company, the turn-mill enables vertical turning and five-face milling operations in one setup. Featuring a heavy cast iron construction and rigid box ways, the machine is designed to increase productivity by decreasing machining time, reducing inaccuracies and simplifying the machining setup.

The turn-mill’s X-, Y- and Z-axis travels measure ±550 × 1,100 × 1,200 mm (22" × 43.3" × 47.2").The B axis indexes from 0 to 90 degrees in 5-degree increments, and the 20-hp, 50-taper B-axis head enables vertical and horizontal milling for one-step machining. The machine also includes a C-axis table that supports five-sided machining. A 35-hp spindle motor drives the 32" hydraulic chuck and provides 1,500 foot-pounds of turning torque. Maximum swing diameter of the workpiece is 1,100 mm (43.3") and maximum turning height is 900 mm (35.43"), enabling large-workpiece manufacturing. The turn-mill is equipped with a 32- or optional 60- or 90-station toolchanger, said to provide flexibility for complex-part manufacturing.
