PM's March Digital Edition is now available.

The March digital issue of Production Machining is now available, with emphasis topics of Data-Driven Manufacturing and Workholding, along with Special Coverage of Multi-Spindle Machining. For our cover story, we take a good, hard look at a new CNC five-spindle that is designed for rapid cycle times and flexible changeover for high precision, medium complexity parts. Our second feature looks at a shop that installed an ERP system as a foundation for better process control, with the eventual goal of adding machine conditioning monitoring.

Our Case in Point this month covers a shop that produces AR-15 rifles. Experiencing workholding problems due to loss of rigidity on the CNC lathes used to turn the barrels and inconsistency with clamping pressure, the company purchased a chuck and clamping head collet system that allows running at or above optimal conditions with the correct cutting inserts.

In place of our Tech Brief section, we feature a Special Report written by Michael Guckes, senior economist at Gardner Business Intelligence. He summarizes the economic forecast for the precision turned parts market.
