The Ohio Edison Center Technology award was given to Ultra Tech Machinery Inc. (Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio). The event took place at the Ohio State House in Columbus, Ohio, on February 8, before a group of state representatives.
Ultra Tech was nominated for the award for a specialty machine the company built for EWI (Columbus, Ohio). The machine was a special purpose, three-axis milling machine for material removal combined with a five-axis ultrasonic tape feeding head designed for adding material. This process allows for efficient creation of internal channels and/or cavities in difficult material types. The design of the machine was accomplished in close collaboration with EWI.
