Industry news for the precision machined parts manufacturers and suppliers.

Going Well. Close to 1,000 companies have registered to purchase metals from the www.carpenterdirect.com site this year. The company hopes this will increase sales. About 60 percent of companies using carpenterdirect.com have never ordered from Carpenter Technology, the company says. One factor driving those companies to the site, the company believes, is carpenterdirect.com's position as a manufacturerowned site, rather than a metals auction or cooperative exchange.

The company sees carpenterdirect.com as a communications and marketing tool for improving customer awareness of the company 24 hours a day. Future and recent site updates to spur traffic, sales upgrades and enhancements continue to be among Carpenter's priorities.

S&M's total building space, including the Parts Distribution Center also in Oconto Falls, Wisconsin, now totals 195,000 sq. ft.
