SPC Innovations adds CNC capability to the cam multi-spindle, allowing the user to compete on difficult parts with the benefits of CNC and the productivity of the cam machine. The company has developed self-contained complete two-axis CNC cross slides, which can literally be “bolted on” to a multi-spindle in place of an existing cross slide. Except for mounting details, the add-on CNC slide is independent of the machine or position where it is installed. It may be moved from one machine and position to another machine or position. Plug-in interface cables provide connections to the machine and CNC unit. The standard CNC add-on cross slide has 45 mm (1.772”) of Z-axis travel and 25 mm (0.984”) of X-axis travel. It is available with one or two tools for operations on the O.D., I.D., shoulders and faces of the part. Additional interfacing provides a spindle speed encoder for single-point thread chasing and other synchronous operations. Multiple cross slides may be used on a single machine.
