The Bradmatic 2AX is an air powered and air programmed compound slides that can be installed and removed from a Hardinge DSM59 in minutes to provide turn, face, bore, groove and form second operations not otherwise available, the company says. The machine uses the Hardinge dovetail bed as its longitudinal way, thus avoiding taper problems by bringing the X slide into direct alignment with the DSM59 headstock. The cross slide uses a combination round and flat way that facilitates quick setup and is rigid enough to invite the use of carbide tools.

The 2AX can bore or turn to plus or minus 0.0002” and even an unskilled operator can make adjustments for tool wear. A steady, controlled feed results in longer tool life and finishes as low as 8 microinches. Use of dials on all positive stops and a fine adjustment on the cross slide offer accurate setups in minimum time, according to Bradmatic.

The 2AX provides 4” of longitudinal feed, of which 2” is controlled feed. Cross-slide travel is 2”, of which 1” is controlled. The controlled feed can be varied from a rate of 0.100” of travel per minute up to a rate of 8” of travel per minute.
