Coil-Fed Turning Machine Designed For Small Parts

The D2 CNC Esco is an automatic turning machine designed for manufacturing simple parts ranging to 0.157" in diameter in large and small lot sizes. Suited for parts with high production, the turning machine accommodates as many as 100 pieces per minute without cams to reduce production times and manufacturing costs, the company says.   The machine is equipped with a menu-guided CNC that employs touchscreen technology and conversational programming, which are said to provide flexible, optimized turning without cycle time loss. The inclusion of CNC also allows freely programmable turning speeds, feed rates and cutting speeds. Additionally, the machine is outfitted with two cutting tools that revolve around the material at speeds as fast as 12,000 rpm. According to the company, this provides high precision, quality surface finishes and close tolerances.   The machine also features an automatic coil-fed system that can accommodate coil stock of virtually any shape. Coil stock requires less space than barstock and reduces change-over time compared with its more traditional counterpart, the company says. All coil stock goes through a cleaning box, where it is scrubbed with steel wool before going into a straightener. There, it becomes a solid, straight bar. Wire as small as 0.011" in diameter can be machined without bending or whipping.
