The design utilizes a vulcanized master collet whose parallel clamping action results in higher clamping forces than conventional spring-type master collets. The company's master collet also provides a large clamping range of ±0.020" (0.5 mm). Significantly shorter than traditional designs, the company's "S" pad chucks provide increased utilization of a turning machine's Z axis. The short overall length combined with the high clamping force generated by the parallel clamping design provides greater rigidity since the part is machined closer to the face of the spindle. These features also permit taking heavier cuts and result in improved tool life. The vulcanized master collet together with a face seal inside the chuck body completely seal the chuck. Chips, swarf and coolant are contained in the ID of the collet and cannot migrate into the chuck or ID of the machine spindle, causing down time to clean the chuck and spindle. These "S" style chucks are available from stock in both dead length and pull back models for S-15, S-16, S-20, S-22, S-26 and S-30 collet pads. The chucks include a spindle adapter plate and draw tube connector. Their modular design allows them to be adapted to all machine spindle configurations.
