Carpenter Technology has expanded the Project 70 + PDB stainless portfolio of precision machining bar designed for CNC Swiss-type screw machines by adding Project 70+ PDB Custom 630 (17Cr-4Ni) stainless.

The stainless is a martensitic, precipitation/age-hardening stainless steel offering high strength and hardness along with excellent corrosion resistance, the company says. The alloy can be age-hardened by a single-step, low temperature treatment. Custom 630 stainless offers customers improved machinability compared with standard 17Cr-4Ni stainless, boosting productivity of machine shop operations.

Project 70+ PDB stainless is available in seven nominal round diameters—from 0.2500" to 0.6250"—with 144" standard lengths.

Carpenter’s global team of technical experts and metallurgists are available to assist customers with setup to help keep small and large machine shops operating around the clock.
