Rolled Alloys has begun distribution of the lean duplex stainless steel LDX 2101. The alloy offers outstanding strength and stress corrosion cracking resistance for a range of potential applications, the company says.

The stainless steel is considered a "lean" duplex because its chemical composition consists of very low amounts of nickel (1.5 percent) and molybdenum (0.3 percent). While the lean chemistry helps keep costs down, its strength and corrosion resistance are comparable to higher priced stainless steel alloys. It is also said to be easy to fabricate and can be used in a range of service environments.
