The company introduces the SNM Model 844, an eight-spindle 1 1/8" automatic bar (screw) machine. The Model 844 brings to market advances in screw machine design, in drive train, controls and speed. With no belts or "timing chains" in the machine drive, the quiet operation reduces operator fatigue and improves attention. Industry standard motor controls allow for speed in cutoff, rpm "tweek on the fly" to optimize production speed without gear changes and adjust tool slide and cross slide feed rates electronically, all bringing index times as low as 0.70 seconds. The PLC can be networked with plant systems allowing real-time production and performance information access, with more capability to adapt to new MIS systems as they are evolve. EEPROM modules allow fast and easy program changes and PLC upgrades if/when warranted. Design improvements include double "v-seal" protection for spindle bearings and a base designed for easier chip removal. The new drive design incorporates separate motors for machine and spindle drive for quiet operation. Field measurement shows generated noise below 85 db in many applications.
