This self-clamping miniature insert mounted on a solid carbide 0.236" diameter bar fits into the Iscar Passport MG PCO. The mini-bars for right-hand machining are supplied with shank extensions of 0.394" or 0.787". This tool is said to provide a special solution for internal turning and threading applications. Recommended cutting conditions for 4340 steel are 275-500 sfm and feed rates of 0.001-0.007 ipr. For ease of use, the inserts are supplied in a double-ended cartridge that is used as an accessory for mounting and indexing the inserts on the carbide bar. The special design of these tools provides and economical solution by providing ease of mounting and indexing, eliminates the need to set up after each insert indexing, provides an easy way to handle very small inserts and eliminates the need for spare parts. The original Passport system introduced earlier into the market, is an innovative, universal tool capable of holding a variety of solid carbide bars and steel shanks for internal boring applications in small diameter holes. The system utilizes various bars and shanks to perform all kinds of internal turning options, such as longintudinal boring and turning, back turning, profiling, undercutting, grooving and threading. The solid carbide shanks provides rigidity, high stiffness, and resistance to bending and deflection, all of which result in dimensional accuracy and high surface quality. The Passport holder bar has two different bore diameters, 6mm and 8mm (0.236" and 0.315"), one on each end of the tool, thereby enabling the use of different carbide shank sizes. The overhang of the carbide bars can be adjusted in accordance with the required depth of the machined bore. The depth of boring range with the 6mm diameter shank is 15 to 42mm (0.630" to 1.653") using the ChamGroove GIQR/L 8 inserts. The boring depth range with the 8mm diameter shank is 16mm to 56mm (0.630" to2.20") with the GIQR/L 11 inserts.
