Expanding Mandrels

These mandrels are designed to reduce scrap and rejected work as well as for automatic part loading with the small amount of sleeve expansion (compared to the jaw movement on the chuck), faster loading and unloading times and for reducing clamping time.

 

The EM mandrels operate by drawing a thin-wall clamping sleeve over a taper in the mandrel body and expanding the sleeve. Actuation is either manually (by turning a bolt) or powered by a hydraulic and drawbar. Each sleeve size offers an expansion range between 0.020" (0.5 mm) to 0.060" (1.5 mm) depending on the mandrel and workpiece size. Each mandrel body is useable with a variety of different sleeve sizes giving the mandrel the flexibility to be used with different workpiece sizes. A variety of mounting options are also available.

 

The EM-A series of solid mandrels uses 11 mandrel bodies to cover a clamping range of 0.578" (14.7 mm) to 5.1" (129.7 mm) and the EM-B modular series with the possibility of interchanging the taper and stop plate with a variety of clamping sleeves. This series offers the rigidity of a monoblock design with a variety of sleeve sizes for each mandrel body. The EM-B series covers a similar range with five-basic mandrel bodies.
