The five-cutting edge insert, Pentacut, is for multifunction applications including grooving, parting, recessing and chamfering.

This insert is designed to perform shallow grooving operations and parting of small solid bars up to 12.5 mm (0.492") in diameter. Each cutting edge on the pentagonal shaped insert is equipped with a J-type positive chip former that provides chip control in grooving, parting and recessing (light-side turning) applications.

The central recess on the rake face causes chip narrowing and curling that brings chip flow with minimal interaction with sidewalls of the machined groove. This chip deflector is efficient in a range of workpiece materials and machining conditions. The insert is especially useful on groove bottoms and sidewalls.

It is tangentially mounted on a side of the holder, positioned against two peripheral contact surfaces. A side torx screw clamps the insert. The torx screw can be activated from either side of the holder to enable insert indexing (rotation) without having to remove the holder from the machine turret. The Pentacut tools can be mounted on any type of lathe.
