Seco Tools has added its Duratomic process technology to two cutting grades designed for grooving and parting-off applications. During the Duratomic process, aluminum oxide is arranged at the atomic level to adjust the coating to fit specific applications and workpieces. The TGP25 grade is suited for steels, and the TGP45 grade is suited for a range of materials. Both grades also feature tailored substrates. TGP25 is offered in inserts for groove turning, and the TGP45 grade is available in the company’s 150.10 insert range.

While TGP25 is designed mainly for machining steel and TGP45 for parting-off steel, both are suited for stable, high speed applications in stainless steel and as alternatives to cast iron. Features include heat resistance to withstand high feeds and speeds; increased tool life; flank wear resistance; and a low risk of edge buildup, which results in a quality surface finish, the company says.
