The S224 indexable insert, with through-coolant and HP65 coating, features the HORN .3V geometry in 3-mm (0.118”) width is a new addition to the company's product offering. The wear-resistant AlTiN coating with the addition of an internal coolant port is specifically designed for parting-off stainless steels. The coolant port and funnel-shaped nozzle create a coolant jet that directs cutting fluids into the cutting zone, supporting chip formation and reducing chip buildup that cause premature tool failure. Unlike conventional cooling methods, this system enables higher cutting parameters that allow the system to be even more cost-effective while extending tool life, the company says. Coolant is transferred through a standard range of through-coolant holders designed to maintain a high level of accuracy and repeatability from one insert to the next.
