The VµMaster from Flexbar Machine Corp. does not contain a conventional stage or encoders; rather it has a floating high-resolution camera that can move virtually anywhere in the measuring range. The position of the measuring camera is determined by a second camera moving in unison and reading the X, Y scale.
According to the company, this enables the system to offer accurate measurements to 7.5 microns within the 16" × 12" (400 mm × 300 mm) X, Y measuring range without the need for conventional high precision mechanics.
The measuring system operates on a Windows XP platform and is based on Baty's Fusion software. Standard geometric features are calculated from data collected using video edge detection. Other features include a new suite of video tools with 'live' edge detection adjustment and digital zooming/panning.
