Hanwha Machinery America introduces the seven-axis model XD20M CNC Swiss-type lathe to fill specific needs required in the medical machining industry. Hanwha started with the XD20H series machine and added features sought after by shops specializing in machining medical parts.

The XD20M features a synchronized guide bushing with bar capacity of as much as 20-mm diameter (0.750”). The machine has a 10,000 rpm, 5-hp spindle. Seven milling/drilling live tool units are standard on the XD20M to answer the need for more complex machining on medical parts. Five of the revolving tool units are located on the main cross slide and two are located at the four-position backworking station.

The machine’s subspindle motion is by independent X2 and Z2 axis advancing it toward the main spindle for parts transfer at part cutoff and also front facing drilling. Two fixed ER-16 front facing ID tool stations ride with the subspindle. These tool stations are recessed to allow for up to 6.0” deep hole/gun drilling on the main spindle operation.

Hanwha’s Swiss-type lathes offer heavy casting design and six leveling pads that strategically support the headstock, guide bushing housing, and the full wrap around casting under the subspindle.
