Tornos Multispindle by Hydromat introduces the MultiAlpha 6x32. This machine has a three-axis independent counterspindle with five backworking tool positions and the latest advancement integrated motorspindles.

It is redesigned with a 1.260" diameter bar capacity with the work spread over six spindles. Each spindle functions independently of the others for cutting rpm, spindle stops and indexing. The spindles with independent speed settings enable the full range of cutting tools to be employed. This extends tool life and improves the quality of the components produced, the company says. With every position potentially being used as a C axis, allowing any positioned transverse milling or drilling operation to be performed at any time and on all spindles. These spindles can be synchronized in angular fashion, meaning that positioned operations, such as eccentric drilling can be perfomred at several different stations.

Motorspindles are equally flexible on the frontworking units. To help achieve maximum flexibility, the end units can be fitted with motorquills.

Production times are reduced with a high rate of stock removal and simultaneous machining opertions performed together with operations from the frontworking units, cross slides and counterspindle. The machine's counterspindle holds the component during the cutoff operation, then presents the workpiece to a tool slide for a number of operations ont he back of the component such as turning, drilling and milling.
