Iscar's Jet-Cut system features a coolant hole that passes through the insert to an outlet near the cutting edge. The new inserts are designed for parting and grooving operations on stainless steel and high-temperature alloys. The inserts are especially useful for grooving and parting applications where there is a problem getting coolant to the cutting edge. The inserts allow coolant to travel through the insert and exit a hole directly next to the cutting edge. In addition, materials such as titanium, inconel and austenitic stainless steel tend to strain-harden during the cutting process and thereby produce long and tangled chips. By efficiently applying coolant through the system, flank and cratering rates are reduced, thus substantially increasing tool life, according to the company.
