The CoroThread 266 high-precision threading tool provides increased productivity and stability, the manufacturer, Sandvik, says. Offering value to the oil, gas and mechanical engineering industries, the tool is available in 0.5" and 0.625" insert sizes. The tool achieves high levels of stability through the iLock insert locking system. With this new design, an insert contains a slot for each of its three indexable cutting edges. When locked into place, these slots correspond to a raised guide rail on the actual tool, providing a more stable interface. The iLock system simplifies tool setups, eliminates potential insert movement during machining and provides repeatability with high levels of accuracy, according to the company. It also disperses cutting forces with no pressure points, reducing the strain on both tool and insert to provide longer tool life.

The threading tool also reduces machining vibration, and the e-tolerance of the system is 0.0004" axially and 0.02" radially, minimizing the effects of changing cutting edges to ensure maximum product consistency. Extensive testing has shown the CoroThread 266 to achieve increased cutting data, while providing longer tool life and higher productivity.
