The Tiger-tec cutting tool coating material is being applied to a wider range of milling cutters. This coating was developed from Walter's PVD technology applied to an aluminium oxide coating. According to the company, when this coating is used with tools for cutting stainless steel, service-life of those tools is doubled.

This coating is being applied to these milling cutters: the Xtra-tec shoulder milling cutter F4041 with four-edge indexable inserts, the Xtra-tec face milling cutter F4033 with eight-edge indexable inserts, the octagonal milling cutter F2280, the copy milling cutter F2334 with round indexable inserts, the copy finishing milling cutter F2139 with two-edged radius insert and the high-performance milling cutter F2330 with special trigon-type indexable inserts.

These models offer a choice between the two cutting material grades, WSM35 and WSP45. WSM35 is suitable for materials with difficult cutting properties and stainless austenitic steel qualities, while WSP45 is the preferred option for materials with difficult cutting properties, low-alloy to high-alloy steel types and ferritic and austenitic stainless steels, according the company. Because of its higher tenacity, the WSP45 is also recommended where machining conditions are unfavourable and for wet machining.
