Radial ID Turning

Schwanog says its WPI system facilitates precise and efficient internal plunge cuts for IDs ranging from 8 to 15 mm. Schwanog says its WPI system facilitates precise and efficient internal plunge cuts for IDs ranging from 8 to 15 mm. Instead of tracing the contour when single-point turning, the geometry is machined simultaneously using a form insert.

The system consists of a round shank holder with a coolant-through feature and a ground carbide form insert. Toolholders are made from steel and are available in heavy metal for greater rigidity and vibration dampening.

According to the company, advantages include reduced unit costs and increased productivity from the insertable form tool. All WPI plunging tools are individually manufactured to customer print.
