The HB 32/45-16 rotary transfer machine is a modular system consisting of up to 16 horizontal and eight vertical tool spindle units, rigidly mounted around a precision cast iron ring. This arrangement has the capability of providing versatility and flexibility in a turnkey machining system. With a 44.5 mm capacity, the HB32/45-16 machine is suited to produce parts from bar stock or blanks up to 152 mm in length. The major elements are the basic machine, including indexing table and tool spindle units; electrical cabinet; hydraulic power supply; automatic loading system or bar feeder; and the chip conveyor/coolant filtration system. These major components are fully integrated to provide the highest system performance and production efficiency. The stationary workpiece undergoes many types of machining operations (drilling, cross drilling, boring, turning, milling, external and internal recessing, threading, tapping, broaching and so on). A precision-ground Hirth ring assures table accuracy, reliability and station-to-station repeatability to within 0.002". The HB 32/45-16 has an inverting unit that removes the workpiece from the collet, turns it 180 degrees and places it precisely back in the same collet, which is being continuously flushed with filtered coolant. In this manner, the back side of the part is completely machined, thereby eliminating normal secondary operations, waste and scrap. The machine is hydraulically controlled. Infinitely variable feeds for each independently controlled tool spindle work simultaneously, allowing the longest machining operation to control the cycle time. All tool spindles are modular and provide maximum interchangeability for retooling. The modular toolhead system provides full flexibility to change machining operations simply by changing the quick-change toolhead attached to the end of the tool spindle.
