The segmented clamping bushings are made of chrome/nickel case hardened steel, which provides wear resistance and rigidity. All contact surfaces are ground in one operation guaranteeing optimum concentricity. The bushing is separated into segments and re-joined through a special vulcanization process. High elasticity, a large opening stroke and vibration dampening are the results. SAD type clamping bushings are hardened to approx. 50 Rockwell throughout. In an emergency, or for small lot sizes, it can be machined to the needed diameter. The support ring needed to accomplish this is included. Another newly developed product, the Mandrex, can also be used in conjunction with the standard segmented mandrel. The Mandrex system was developed to compensate for out of round workpieces while at the same time keeping deformation to a minimum.
