The hyperMaxx optional roughing strategy from Open Mind is fully integrated with hyperMill to optimize milling paths, maximize material removal and reduce machining times. The software is suited for machining soft and hard materials that are difficult to cut, such as titanium, nickel-based alloys and stainless steel. Both large machining and micromachining jobs can be handled quickly and efficiently, the company says. The high-performance strategy also includes a collision check that accounts for tool lengths, as well as plane detection in automatic mode.

A second system is not necessary to utilize the roughing options, and no adjustments are required during post-processing, the company says. The strategy ensures the fastest-possible feed rate by calculating ideally distributed milling paths and dynamically adjusting the feed rate to existing cutting conditions, the company says.

Algorithms are said to provide benefits including a constant load on the tool and machine during the entire machining process; reduced machining times based on larger axial depth of cut and better path layout on each cutting level; no sharp edges or sudden changes in the milling direction; automated, optimized adjustment of feed rate and in-feed machining for tight areas; and full use of the tool diameter without leaving material behind.
