Champion Screw Machine Engineering Inc.'s electric stock depletion detection unit for Acme Gridley screw machines incorporates a stock stop, a proximity switch and a simplified design to provide reliable and repeatable detection of short bar feeds, the company says.
Unlike the old pneumatic units, the Lectronic is designed to operate without adjustments. The simplified design also eliminates the numerous small internal components used in the old air unit. These changes will be appreciated by an operator who has ever had to decide between low production or disabling the air unit in order to run the machine.
Machines currently equipped with pneumatic stock stops are easily converted to the new design, requiring only the electric stop, a control box and one addition relay. Machines can be fitted, but will require the addition of an air feed knockout cylinder and an operating grid.
Units are available for the 1" RA-6, 3/4" RA-8, 1 1/4" RA-6, 1 1/4" RB-8 and 1 5/8" RB-8 Acmes. Additional models are being developed.
