The VB DockLock zero-point workholding system is designed to facilitate workholding setup changes in seconds. The system can integrate with workholding devices such as Kurt's vises to provide an accurate, repeatable method for changing setups on virtually all types of HMCs and VMCs. Using the system, vises or fixtures can be positioned and locked in alignment onto the machine worktable, thus reducing operator setup errors.

Using the system, vises or fixtures can be positioned and locked in alignment onto the machine worktable, thus reducing operator setup errors. The system, which consists of a hydraulic-actuated locking cylinder, aligns and locks the vise or fixture with a clamp-down force of 2,800 lbs per locking cylinder and with a retention force of 9,000 lbs per locking cylinder. Once in place, the workholding remains immobile, and the collet connection dampens vibration tendencies. When a change is needed, the system disengages. The workholding can then be moved to another machining center or be made offline-ready for re-introduction to a machining center.

Among the potential benefits offered by the system are repeatable positioning accuracy of ± 0.0002" on typical part runs, favorable part finishes, virtually no scrap parts and reduced setup time savings. In addition to custom models, three versions are available—standard, automatic and heavy-duty. Each system consists of locating collets, cylinders, mounting pallets and pumps allowing configuration of a system for virtually every model machining center and production requirement.
