Iscar has developed a line of reinforced TANG-GRIP blades for the Traub (TNL and TNK models) and Index (MS18C model) turn-mill machines. These blades, because of their reinforced construction, can be used in long overhang. Only the part of the blade required for penetration (cutting depth) has a reduced width. The rest is thick, which provides improved rigidity and stiffness.

These blades are especially useful for parting and grooving between the main and sub-spindle of turn-mill machines. The single-ended insert has very rigid clamping.

Further additions to the Grip line are Do-Grip inserts made from the Sumo Tec carbide grades IC807, IC808 and IC830.

The Sumo Tec grades significantly extend insert life, because of the advanced coating technology used followed by a special surface treatment. This also provides improved tool life because of low surface stress and an evenly coated top surface. The even surface contributes to smooth, uninterrupted chip flow, less generated heat and less friction. The new process improves toughness and chipping resistance, and thus reduces friction and built-up edge. This, in turn, increases and prolongs tool life at increased machining conditions for all types of workpiece materials.

The PVD process is composed of the company’s Al-Tec coating technology, using the surface treatment.
