Harrison Lathe Turning Machines/Centers
For over 90 years, Clausing Industrial, Inc. has been a company dedicated to excellence in machine tool production, distribution and support services.

Robot Products Group Appoints V.P.ABB appointed Joe Campbell as V.P. of its U.S.
Clausing's heavyweight Colchester-Harrison TT6 turn-mill center provides overlapped (twin turning) tool sequences. Even the most complex workpieces can be machined simply, accurately and without setup changes, the company says. Setup times are reduced by about 25 percent and waiting time between processes are elimi
Brian Purser and his son, David, run a successful development and manufacturing operation, Mobile Frag Sales (Staffordshire, United Kingdom), producing and assembling the company’s cutting and shredding equipment. The two versions of the 562.1-ton and 264.5-ton Rail Cropper, which are used to chop railway track into manageable lengths, have been successful in the European market. Using the Colchester Lathe, the company was able to bring its operations in-house.
The Harrison Alpha 1400CT is an advanced technology lathe that is suited for all types of high-precision turning applications. It is especially useful for producing detailed and intricate one-off parts to the highest standard of finish and accuracy. With the Fanuc control and software system, the XT is ideal for turning small-to-medium-sized batches.
The Colchester Storm T10 two-axis and T10M three-axis bar and chucking lathes demonstrate high levels of metal removal and accuracy, the company says. The machines have a 26-kW drive serving a bar capacity of 82. 5 mm in diameter and a swing over the bed of 600 mm, providing maximum flexibility for the 305-mm/265-mm chuck size versions.
Fisadco Engineering, a Hull, United Kingdom precision machining firm, had some reservations about unmanned machining, but it has become a staunch advocate since it installed a Tornado 220M lights-out turning package from Colchester CNC (Kalamazoo, Michigan) in 2004.
A line of CNC turning centers, the Storm T-Series, is available in two, three and five axis models. Storm "M" models offer milling power of 5-hp tool drive motor for both radial and axial milling, drilling, boring and tapping operations. Third axes live turret-mounted tooling adds flexability and large production gains by cutting the number of setups and operations.
The "Lights-Out" unmanned turning package is the flagship for its Tornado range of lathes. It enables highly automated production across the range of two- and three-axis machines. The new livery and ergonomic guard design of the package comprises the MBF 1000 integrated bar feed, parts catcher, swarf conveyor, tool monitoring and sister tool replacement.
A Colchester Tornado A50 CNC lathe, equipped with a bar feed, Renishaw probing, tool monitoring, pickoff unit, swarf conveyor and production-scheduling software, is providing lights-out production capability for Altex Engineering, a (Calne, Wiltshire) U.K. precision subcontractor that specializes in turning and milling in addition to sheet metal fabrication using laser cutting, punch press and folding equipment. With the new CNC lathe, Altex has increased productivity by more than 50 percent on a range of turned components, some 80 percent of which are now completely machined in a single setup.
The Professional engine lathe contains an electronic variable speed drive and is designed and manufactured for precision and reliability at an affordable price, according to the company. The engine lathe is available in a full range of gap bed models: 13" swing with 25" center, 15" swing with 50" center, 18" swing with 60" and 80" centers and 21" swing with 60", 80" and 120" centers. The machines have extra-wide cast iron hardened and ground bedways with triangular webs for chip removal, mounted to a heavy-duty cast iron base engineered to absorb vibration to ensure smooth, accurate operation.
