A Profile Of Productivity
The medical and dental industries are a perfect fit for small parts production on a Davenport. The tool die pin, used by dentists, stabilizes false teeth in dentures.
Approximately one third of all screw machine parts produced in the United States are used in the assembly of automobiles or other segments of the automotive industry. Here we show an assortment of Davenport-made parts including flow valves for shock absorbers, needle valves for carburetors, and tire valve inserts. A wide range of components for diesel engines and spark plugs can also be produced on the Davenport.
Davenport is a proven machine in the defense industry. It is used to machine bullet cores, striker and firing pins, and arsenal caps for our nation’s security. An example shown of a time relay body is fabricated on the Davenport with the use of a special attachment designed specifically for this application.
Davenport Machine Tool Company was founded in 1894 by Mr. William Simeon Davenport in New Bedford, Mass. Initially producing clock pinion turning machines, the company progressed into the manufacture of intricate multiple spindle automatic bar machines. Mr. Davenport filed Davenport Machine as a corporation in 1919. As the business grew, the company began searching for a more central geographic location between the strong Midwestern and New England markets of the time. Later that year, the company established its new headquarters at its present location in Rochester, New York.
From the beginning, Davenport invention revolutionized screw machine technology. The remarkable 5-spindle Model B became a legend. The respected Davenport name embraces an ever-growing spectrum of finely engineered products and Brinkman International is committed to the industry. Davenport innovation will continue to make history for another 100 years.
The new High Precision Orientation attachment for the Davenport HP has the flexibility to eliminate the need for two of the most commonly used attachments: the 1380-S revinloc attachment and MBSL-200-SA, 180 degree spindle locating attachment. (Also MB-2-SL-SA, 360 degree locator.) This optional orientation attachment on the Davenport HPO can be used in either 3rd or 4th position individually, or both positions simultaneously.
The Davenport Rebuild
The most difficult task for us was to overcome the reputation of the old Davenport for high prices, poor quality and bad attitude. In the last decade, we have done that, I think.
Davenport: A 10-Year Update
Fooling yourself that the old machine doesn't cost anything except parts is, in my opinion, a mistake.
Moving Up to CNC for Smaller Lot Sizes
This small shop has a large presence. CNC is playing a significant role in the company’s ability to deliver parts for the big stage.
Manufacturer Stays True to 106-Year-Old Niche
Finding a niche and sticking to it sounds like common sense. Sometimes, however, companies get distracted, even bored, with a niche. That’s never been a problem for the Fischer family.
High Precision Head as a Replacement Part
The company’s high precision (HP) head is now available for purchase as a replacement part.
New Features For Multi-Spindle Machine
Davenport Machine offers new features for its HP machine. The controls package has moved to a more ergonomic position and comes prewired to the machine. The coolant pump is located off the floor, multiple emergency stops were added and an additional viewing window is now in place.
Multi-Spindle Machine Undergoes Changes
The Davenport HP multi-spindle machine rolls out its fourth major product enhancement to meet the evolving demands in high-speed machining. For easier interaction, the Man-Machine-Interface (MMI) has been mounted on a waist-high pendant system that allows the operator to use the interface at the front, end or back of the machine. The upgraded sound enclosure has more windows to increase visibility of the machine while it is running.
High-Precision Orientation Attachment For Davenports
Davenport's High-Precision Orientation (HPO) attachment has the flexibility to eliminate the need for two of the most commonly used attachments: the 1380-SA Revinloc attachment and MBSL-200-SA 1800 spindle locating attachment (also the MB-2-SL-SA, 360-degree locator). This orientation optional attachment can be used in either the third or fourth position individually or both positions simultaneously. The HPO can be used to produce slots or flats on a part at 90 degrees apart (four tooth), 120 degrees apart (six tooth) and 45 degrees apart (eight tooth).
Five-Spindle Automatic Screw Machine
Davenport's High-Precision (HP) Machine comes fully loaded with a PLC for reduced setup times and a high-precision head as standard equipment. The HP head design has stiffened the machine revolving spindles by replacing bronze or needle bearings with ABEC 9 angular radial bearings. This improvement delivers spindle runout consistently less than 0.
Attachments For Multi-Spindle Machines
- World of Attachments catalog pictures some of the popular attachments for the Davenport Model B and Servo B machines- Servo threading, servo pickoff and backworking and bent shank tapping attachments are highlighted in this catalog- These attachments increase the flexibility and variety of parts that can be run on the Davenport machine.
Quick-Change Tool Spindle Box
The quick-change tool spindle front box from Davenport Machine was developed in conjunction with Davenport customers to cut hours off of every setup requiring a tool spindle change. The quick-change box allows the steel outer housing to be aligned and installed once, and interchangeable bronze liners can then be swapped in less than a minute. Changing from a stationary spindle to a revolving spindle or to a broaching spindle can be done without disturbing the spindle alignment.
Competing On A Multi-Spindle
For many high-volume applications, multi-spindle automatics are the right technology for production machining. Increasingly, that production efficiency has been pressured by changes in the needs of shops in the form of shorter run jobs and higher tolerances. This article looks at some of the steps one OEM has taken to address quick change-over issues on its multi-spindle machines and their tooling.
Coated Heads Show Zero Wear
The New Davenport coated head shows zero wear after producing one million parts in a test run on a customer's machines, the company says. Now, the same extended wear life found on the HP revolving head is available on standard 8-SA heads with standard spindles. Using a metallic hard-coating material on the bearing diameter bands, the 8-SA head has less friction and less wear.
Pipe Fittings Produced In A Single Operation
As with many manufacturers today, streamlining production to stay competitive in the global market has become increasingly important at this company. Thatýs why it sought out a machine to produce a double-ended pipe fitting in a single operation as opposed to having to do the back-tapping in an entire second operation.

Cams Delivered in 24 Hours
Davenport has streamlined their manufacturing process and can now ship cams within 24 hours of receiving an order.
Automatic Screw Machines--Davenport Machine Tool
The new Servo Drive Model B bar loader machine uses standard change cams for each job. Capacity is 0.875" round, 0.593" square and 0.750" hex. Maximum stock feed and turning length are both 3". Minimum index time is 0.3 seconds. It has spindle speeds of 350 to 3,500 rpm, selectable in 1 rpm increments. There are no
