Here's a broad look at different ways to approach workholding based upon the requirements of the application.
An in-depth look at the overall application is the best way to determine the most suitable workholding for a job. Experienced workholding engineers can play an important role in the selection process.
New from Kitagaw/NorthTech Workholding, the FG series of finger chucks provide axial gripping in a series of standard sizes. The chucks simply pull back to a locator or centering device with an axial motion. According to the company, these finger chucks use strong, stable axial clamping to firmly grip flanged materials, thin-wall parts, irregular shaped parts, gears and more.
Kitagawa's PLS series pull-down work grippers offer part stability during machining center operations. Consistent gripping forces along with axial, pull-down actuation, provide accurate length control on the Z axis. An alternative to conventional jigs, the grippers are suitable for a variety of workholding applications and are sealed against chip and coolant contamination.
