Advancements in technology and design make 5-axis machine tools much more affordable. This, combined with ever-increasing computing power of the Mazatrol CNC and off-line multi-axis programming have tipped the scales in favor of 5-axes for many companies processing a variety of part configurations. Advantages can be found in lot sizes from just one piece up to medium-volume production. |

Mazak manufactures the most productive machine tools in the world. We meet standards of precision and reliability that are second to none in products, development, and manufacturing. All six manufacturing facilities in Japan, the US, England, and Singapore meet the high standard of machine quality we insist on. By producing machines close to the market, we understand what our customers need to gain a competitive edge. This ability to match products to the market requirements allows us to produce innovative, high performance machines at a reasonable price. Agile manufacturing in all our factories provides consistent, high quality-machine tools. The Mazak National Technology Center is a vital mechanism that links diverse technologies with ideas, knowledge and experience to develop, prove and demonstrate solutions to manufacturing challenges. This is a knowledge based facility presenting a stream of ideas for stimulating customers' thoughts about advanced manufacturing through technology seminars. Working closer to our customers, Mazak Regional and Distributor Technical Centers become an extension of the National Technology Center for exchanging issues, ideas and solutions.

Mazak’s Integrexe-1060V/8 II multitasking center provides full turning and milling capabilities and features a milling spindle that tilts as much as 150 degrees to allow both horizontal and vertical machining operations, angle boring and milling on multiple faces. The machine also offers full simultaneous five-axis cutting to reduce throughput time for large parts of substantial complexity.
Sales Organization RestructuredDave Lucius is the new VP of sales at Methods Machine Tools and will oversee the entire North American sales organization. He was previously the company’s VP, national distribution.
Mazak’s Quick Turn (QT) Smart series of two-axis lathes are designed for high productivity turning. The line’s QT-SMART 350 delivers fast axis feed rates, high accuracy and rigidity and a user-friendly Mazatrol Smart control, making it especially useful for job shops and other high production environments.
Mazak's VTC-800/30SR VMC offers versatile machining operation with a swing milling spindle, full traveling column and fixed table design. The machining center provides machining stability and is equipped with 110-degree, B-axis spindle, which is available at either 12,000 or 18,000 rpm, ensuring high-speed, high accuracy positioning over extended periods of operation, the company says.

Mazak’s multitasking Hyper Quadrex 100MSY offers high-productivity, high-rigidity and high-efficiency turning and machining, the company says. The machine features two horizontally opposed spindles, each with a 6” through-hole chuck. The turning spindles each generate 15 hp and 6,000 rpm.
This company constantly strives to uphold a quality reputation, stay lean and continue to expand its business. It attributes its most recent success to the addition of three Variaxis machining centers.
Mazak's Nexus 8800-II HMC for large parts features a 60-tool storage magazine, 10,000-rpm, 50-hp integrated spindle/motor generating as many as 900 ft. /lbs of torque, the highest torque rating available on an integrated spindle motor, according to the company.
According to manufacturer Mazak, the Integrex i-150 provides enhanced, “done-in-one” processing for small, accurate and complex parts. With its compact footprint, the center is suited for medical appliance manufacturers and high-precision component machining involving round, square or angular features. Also, simultaneous five-axis surfacing is possible with minimum operator intervention, the company says.
Available from Mazak, the Hyper Quadrex 150 MSY is designed for producing turned and machined workpieces from barstock as large as 2. 56" (65 mm) in diameter. The machine features two horizontally opposed spindles for turning and C-axis control as well as two full-function tool turrets with X-, Y- and Z-axis motions.

Like many other United Kingdom subcontracting companies, Jetblades Engineering has had to change its operating methods to cope with the new manufacturing environment. Managing Director Mark Kirby relies more than ever on the company’s CAM software as he moves the firm from production machining to short-run manufacturing.
The Nexus QTN 450M is a high-torque, multitasking CNC turning center featuring a large-bore spindle. With a maximum swing of 33. 3” and a maximum machining diameter of 22.
Fusing the capabilities of a simultaneous five-axis machining center and CNC turning center, the Integrex e-1550V accomplishes complete machining of large workpieces in a single setup through a 50-hp, 12,000-rpm milling spindle that can tilt 150 degrees and a 50-hp, 300 rpm rotating table. Maximum workpiece dimensions are 78. 7" × 56.
Mazak's Quick Turn Nexus-100MS with multitasking capabilities has spindle power on the advanced integral spindle/motor that is 40 percent higher (15 hp, 6,000 rpm) on the main turning spindle (6" chuck) for high-precision metal removal and high speed cutting of aluminum and other nonferrous materials. The second spindle has a 5" chuck size, 15-hp output and a 6,000-rpm maximum spindle speed. The additional milling spindle has a 5-hp output and 4,500-rpm maximum speed (6,000 rpm optional).
For high production of chucked workpieces, the Multiplex Triple 8200Y high-production CNC multitasking center featuring two horizontally opposed 8” chuck headstocks with a 12-tool turret for each side and a third lower turret with nine tools that can work with both headstocks. Maximum swing is 12. 6”.
The company's Integrex e-410H, a multi-tasking machine delivering turning, milling, drilling, tapping and other operations in one setup, now contains a material-handling robot. Called the Integrex e-bot Cell 720, it is designed to provide up to 720 hours of automated production or 90 8-hour shifts, nonstop, according to the company. As a CNC turning center, it is a two-spindle machine with the same specifications for both spindles: a 35 hp output and a 4,000 rpm maximum spindle speed with 10" chucks on each spindle.
