Dealing with a Materials Shortage
Materials suppliers discuss strategies for coping with the supply challenges of today's market.
Making Stainless More Machinable
Stainless steels are one of the more difficult materials to machine.
Reduce Stainless Steel Part Costs
The company features a line of machinable products produced by its Ugitech SA mill that are said to be capable of reducing machining costs. Ugitech’s Ugima and Ugima XL are said to reduce part posts by as much as 50 percent in some cases. The Ugima technology allows machining speeds to exceed what most stainless steels are capable of, the company says.

Consider All Your Stainless Steel Options
This article looks at copper-rich alloys that offer the mechanical properties of the conventional AISI as well as improved machinability.
Stainless Bars Include Nickel Alloys
The Ugima XL stainless bar product line has expanded to include nickel alloy bars and free-machining stainless wires (escomatic quality). The product line allows for savings through extended tool life and cycle time reductions, according to the company. The company's malleable oxides have been used in this new line that break down at machining temperatures to coat the abrasive oxides found in stainless steel and provide longer tool life, the company says.
Descriptions, characteristics, electrical and mechanical properties and machinability are all included in the UGIMA XL fold-out brochure. A machinability table and machining graphs are also featured as well as the company's locations across the country.
Gaining Productivity . . . Using An Alloy
Vineburg Machining, Inc. (Sonoma, California) has been making a stainless device—which is part of a watering system primarily for pig farms—for about 25 years for the same customer.
Today's Precision Stainless Machining Bars
In many cases, the raw material being used is a weak link in the screw machining process.
