Sometimes a change in inserts can make a big difference. Here’s a shop that retooled a heavy duty OD turning and facing job resulting in triple the material removal rate and more than double the tool life.

AWC Frac Valve (Conroe, Texas) manufactures very large valves for the oil and gas industry and generates chips the size of cornflakes in the process. Working with 4130 steel, the change in tooling completely eliminated sudden edge failures that previously had interrupted production and forced a lot of re-working.
