Production Machining’s September Digital Edition is now available. This issue features emphasis topics of Multi-Spindle and Micromachining, with special coverage of Parts Cleaning. The cover story looks at a new eight-spindle machine designed for higher productivity on parts of up to 40 mm in diameter. For our other feature, we examine a shop that uses an array of measurement/inspection equipment in the production of very high precision part features.

Our Tech Brief delves into direct-drive technology—the force of a motor being directly applied to a mechanism without any intermediate drivetrain such as a gearbox or toothed belt.

This month’s Case in Point goes into a Houston shop that is using automated deburring to speed the production of subsea valves while improving the work process for employees.

The September issue also features the next installment of PM’s Parts Cleaning coverage. Our cleaning feature looks at the importance of ensuring that metal parts are properly cleaned and packaged. The Tech Brief considers ways for coping with the ever-increasing demands for clean component surfaces.

Parts cleaning, like most metalworking processes, is experiencing ever tightening specifications. Shops must continuously evaluate whether to clean parts in-house or use a supplier. This article looks at current aqueous cleaning processes and suggests criteria for the make or buy decision.
