The online survey to help determine the Top Shops in the U.S. is now live online. Last year, just less than 200 shops participated in the inaugural survey, and the results were revealing. The idea behind this survey, sponsored by our sister publication Modern Machine Shop, is to help metalworking manufacturers identify best shopfloor practices along with operational and business methods compared with what is defined as world-class competitiveness in precision machined parts manufacturing.
For many shops, the ability to do a real comparison of their businesses with other similar shops is constrained by distance and time. The inclusive nature of this survey--
job shops, contract manufacturers and captive shops--makes the information gathered of real benefit for helping analyze a shop’s strengths and areas for improvement. It can be a valuable tool.
