To establish a joint venture operation based in Trencin, Slovakia, to be called 600BOST, 600 Group has reached an agreement with long-term trading partner BOST SK. The joint venture, which is expected to become fully operational on January 1, 2008, will combine and build on to the existing BOST sales and support infrastructure as well as the Group’s own 600 International representative office in Prague, Czech Republic. The objective of creating the venture is to further expand 600 Group’s machine tool businesses in the growing markets of Eastern Europe. The venture, 600BOST, will develop a comprehensive distribution network throughout Eastern Europe and provide existing and new distributors with locally based spares, stock and demonstration machines as well as technical support for both pre- and after-sales activities. TPS International, Inc. and Ann Arbor Machine Co. (AAM) have expanded their applications engineering, sales and service joint venture relationship to include additional machine tools, facility and personnel assets. Hexagon AB has entered into an agreement to acquire all outstanding shares of CogniTens Ltd., a provider of shopfloor non-contact dimensional measurement products. In July, Precision Twist Drill became part of the Dormer Group, with the two brands joining forces in the NAFTA region to form Precision Dormer. David Buxton and Kevin Miller of Ohio Stamping and Machine LLC (Springfield, Ohio) are the first in the nation to earn the new OJT Trainer Certifications from the National Institiute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS). The new certifications are a component of the NIMS Structured On-The-Job Training Program that is being launched nationally. The certifications required employees to demonstrate their training skills against industry-developed competencies.
