Hydromat Inc. (St. Louis, Missouri) has formed a new service-oriented business division—The Hydromat Advanced Product Group. The group offers turnkey solutions with design and manufacturing capabilities. Services include engineering, software development, control integration and advanced quality systems. Full machine shop capabilities, grinding services, assembly, as well as welding and fabrication are complemented with paint booths and finishing systems. Project engineers work hand-in-hand with customers to develop tailored manufacturing process solutions. An engineering committee, including an array of manufacturing disciplines, monitors every phase of each project. Machine shop services are also available for one-off prototyping and job shop production runs of specialized parts.

A bar processing and distribution facility will be built in Batavia, Illinois, for Ugitech USA (Doylestown, Pennsylvania). This project represents an investment and commitment to the North American marketplace. Expected to start delivering product by the third quarter of 2007, this facility will produce two of the company’s existing technologies, Ugima XL family of stainless machining grades and SMQ bar. Morris Midwest (Milwaukee, Wisconsin), a division of Morris Group, Inc., has been named the exclusive representative for Tsugami products in Wisconsin and upper Michigan. Morris Midwest provides service, parts and application engineering support in Wisconsin, upper Michigan and Northern Illinois for other machine tool manufacturers as well. 3M (St. Paul, Minnesota) will expand manufacturing operations for its growing superabrasives business. Operations currently housed in a small facility in Whippany, New Jersey, will move to a larger 3M facility in Flemington, New Jersey. The transition of operations from Whippany to Flemington is scheduled to begin in the spring of 2007 and should be completed by early in the fourth quarter. 3M’s existing medical products manufacturing operations in Flemington will continue to be located there. Vero International Software (Wixom, Michigan) announced that its parent company, VI Group plc, has acquired Camtek Ltd., the U.K. developer of PEPS software. PEPS provides solutions for the production CAM market, incorporating mill/turn applications, wire EDM, five-axis laser cutting and tube cutting. Don Babbs, managing director of Vero International Software, says, “We are delighted with the announcement. The addition of the Camtek people will allow us to enhance both the PEPS and VISI Series product ranges as well as adding solutions for the wire EDM market, advanced production CAM and specialist solutions for laser and tube cutting.” Visit Vero International Software's PM Online Showroom.

Lester Detterbeck Enterprises Ltd. (Iron River, Michigan) purchased the Brown & Sharpe screw machine toolholder line from B-S Screw Machine Services Inc. of Warwick, Rhode Island. The line will be called Brown & Sharpe Screw Machine Tools or Brown & Sharpe SMT. Components for this line will be built and assembled in Lester Detterbeck’s Michigan plant. Andy Pennington has been named national sales and marketing manager for Campat Machine Tools Inc., a machine tool dealer and importer headquartered in Plano, Texas. He now has the responsibility for expanding sales, as well as the dealer network throughout North America and Canada for the Leadwell product lines. Hexagon Metrology Inc. (North Kingstown, Rhode Island) has moved one of its U.S. Hexagon Precision Centers to a new expanded facility in Huntersville, North Carolina. The new 10,000-square-foot precision center features a large training facility, a demonstration center and a precision measurement laboratory.
