PMTS 2019: The Eldorado M75-48T from Kays Engineering features increased slide travel.
#PMTS
The Eldorado M75-48T from Kays Engineering is a two-spindle gundrilling machine with 48" (1,219 mm) of slide travel. This machine has 60 percent more slide travel than the standard Eldorado model offered by the company. The additional length enables most gundrilling applications.
The machine has a gundrilling diameter range of 0.055"-0.75" (1.4 mm-19.1 mm). It features two gundrilling spindles with independent spindle control, enabling two cycles to run at the same time. The machine also uses counter-rotation of the workpiece to improve drilling performance.
The machine features cast iron box ways and hand-scraped spindle housings (versus linear guide ways and milled surfaces). This is said to result in vibration damping, extended tool life and improved surface finish.

I recently learned about a 153-year-old manufacturer that has produced billions upon billions of precision, metal pins which started another business making one-off wooden baseball bats. (Like I asked it to do for me and you’ll see at this year’s Precision Machining Technology Show). Here I explain why it’s worth the time to read that article.
