Fasteners, screw machine parts, ammunition, and other cylindrical parts are typically made fast and in high volume. Defect levels in these industries have gone from thousands of ppm to near zero because to process improvement and 100% sorting. Many secondary processes are performed off site where contamination occurs.

Fasteners, screw machine parts, ammunition, and other cylindrical parts are typically made fast and in high volume. Defect levels in these industries have gone from thousands of ppm to near zero because to process improvement and 100% sorting. Many secondary processes are performed off site where contamination occurs. Sampling and other SPC methods are not effective for finding random defects so 100% sorting is becoming the answer for zero defects.

General Inspection sorting machines detect small defects anywhere around the part. Chips, smashed and nicked threads, excessive plating build-up and small dimensional defects are routinely sorted. Parts that do not meet print tolerances are rejected and all external part dimensions from every part are displayed and stored in memory.

Anyone that can read a blueprint simply enters the dimensions and tolerances. After initial setup (of an unlimited number of different parts), part numbers can be recalled and the system is ready to use again, even by unskilled operators.
