Mastercam X Maintenance Release 2 (MR2) software offers multi-axis tool paths, X Art and more. An engine on the multi-axis tool path provides a customized, streamlined interface that is fine-tuned to specific applications, such as impellers and turbine blades. Depending on what tool path is being used, the company’s parameter pages display parameters applicable to the specific tool path type.

Advanced controls for gouge-checking allow control of the tool motion, and users are not limited to retracting along the tool axis. Full roughing capability is also available for all multi-axis machining strategies, including an option for plunge roughing.

Version 9 Art is integrated in the X interface, including text menus, hot keys, toolbars and help. An art manager tracks art surfaces and operations.

The art manager tab is located in the operations manager, and the art program lets the user wrap art around a cylinder and cut it. If the user specifies cylinder dimensions, an unwrapped cylinder is created. A tool path offers roughing and finishing options for the cylinder milling spiral tool path.

The software also offers art surface generation speed improvements, art surface quality improvements, the ability to process large files, art chaining and more.
