Somma Tool’s resharpenable quick-change insert form tool system will boost the efficiency of single- and multi-spindle screw machines, the company says. This product is designed to allow users to re-sharpen and reuse the insert without resetting the holder, regardless of the amount of material removed by sharpening.

Because of Somma's bottom-up clamping technology, the insert will always return to center without any adjustments needing to be made, thus eliminating machine downtime.

Users can also take advantage of this technology when switching between multiple parts within the same family.

Most inserts can be resharpened 20-30 times, which will greatly reduce tooling costs compared with conventional dovetails or throwaway type inserts, the company says.

This insert form tooling system offers shops the option of making their own inserts in-house. Insert blanks, EDM/grinding fixtures, step correction program, design manuals and more are available for purchase.
