Microfinishing Machine

The series 140M centerless microfinishing machine is designed to impart micron-level surface finishes to a variety of critical cylindrical, single- and multi-diameter parts such as wrist pins, valve stems and medical parts up to 178 mm (7”) in length, between 25 mm and 4 mm diameter (0. 16” to 1. 0”).

Oscillating tooling applies fine abrasive film to rotating workpieces for specific cycles at predetermined pressures to achieve surface finish specifications grinders cannot match.

The vertically mounted, pneumatically operated microfinishing unit, which includes an abrasive film holder, guides and indexer.

In operation, the part is manually loaded onto drive rolls located below the abrasive film. When the doors close, coolant is started and the polishing media is lowered to contact the part. Coolant is used primarily to remove material particles from the work area. The part is then rotated for a predetermined time to complete the polishing process. After polishing, the abrasive returns to home and the used abrasive film is automatically rewound. The doors are opened and the part is removed. A light curtain assures operator safety.
