Manual and automated passivation systems are available from companies such as Miraclean.

Please allow me to involve you in a little experiment while we share some good technical information. Passivation is an important step in maximizing corrosion resistance of stainless steel parts. This chemical process, which occurs naturally on most stainless steels, covers or “fixes” flaws on the surface. The process, however, can be impaired by contaminants, and additional steps must often be taken to remove microscopic iron particles that have been deposited on the surface during the manufacturing process. If done properly, passivation covers the entire surface of the stainless steel with a protective oxide film, in effect, making it more stainless.

Another interesting fact about passivation is that it is one of the most commonly researched topics on Gardner Business Media’s websites. “How to Passivate Stainless Steel Parts,” from mmsonline.com, remains the single most highly visited article we’ve posted. Other articles such as “Passivation of Stainless Steel Parts: The Recipe for Success” and “Determine Passivation of Stainless” continue to see unusually high numbers of visitors as well.

So while I thought this blog post might be interesting to a number of our readers, I’m also curious to see if the topic alone is enough to generate a fair amount of traffic. Thank you for adding to these numbers.
