What coolant practices are best for titanium?

For titanium, coolant needs to be delivered in large volume and ideally at high pressure as close to the cutting edge as possible. Coolant delivered at 80 bar or higher is recommended to drive a wedge between the rake face of the cutting tool and the chip to further reduce heat transfer and abrasive wear. High-pressure or ultra-high-pressure coolant also enables increasing cutting speeds, thereby improving productivity. Inadequate coolant delivery will greatly reduce tool life. Consult with a coolant supplier to discuss what coolant would be best for your setup.

How do I control coolant mist?

A coolant health and safety concern is the amount of oil mist created by high pressure coolant that permeates the air and coats floors and other surfaces within the manufacturing facility. Mist collectors are designed to remove oil mist from the machine and return the liquid to the coolant sump, thus providing a healthier environment and reducing coolant costs.
