DN Solutions (formerly Doosan Machine Tools) has opened of a technical support office in Troy, Michigan. The new location will provide service solutions to both dealers and customers. “As our business continues to grow, we plan to open additional service centers like this one to ensure that fast, dependable DN Solutions service is always accessible,” says Jim Shiner, director of sales and marketing at DN Solutions America. “With a location well positioned to offer service in the central United States, this office is staffed with a team of experts who are on a mission to provide support when and where you need it.” Read more about this new technical support office.

Index Establishes Toolholder Rebuild Service in North America — Index Corp. has established a dedicated service department to rebuild toolholders at its North American headquarters in Noblesville, Indiana. The company previously processed all such rebuilds at its parent company in Germany. By investing in bringing this capability to the U.S., the companys expects to cut lead times for rebuilds by 50-70%. When the company rebuilds one of its toolholders, engineers fully disassemble the unit and inspect the housing and shafts. Any internal mechanical component demonstrating signs of wear is replaced to ensure that the toolholder is fully restored to its original operating condition.

NIMS Offers New Methodology for Learning GDT — The National Institute for Metalworking Skills (NIMS) has developed a new methodology to learn, retain and transfer knowledge for geometric tolerancing and dimensioning (GDT) across an organization and is offering the training in a day-and-a-half workshop. It is said that, conventionally, most people are taught print reading with drawings which are annotated with limit dimensioning and all its flaws. Lessons in limit dimensioning are further applied in engineering or manufacturing activities.

GWS Tool Group Acquires Peterson Tool Co. GWS Tool Group has reached an agreement to acquire Peterson Tool Co. The transaction is subject to customary regulatory approvals and closing conditions, with a closing expected to occur during the second or third quarter of 2022. Located in Nashville, Tennessee, Peterson Tool Co.’s focus is on providing precise, carefully engineered carbide tools.

Zeiss Changes Name to Zeiss Industrial Quality Solutions — Carl Zeiss Industrial Metrology is changing its legal name to Carl Zeiss Industrial Quality Solutions to reflect the company’s growth and development. With the acquisition of several companies in recent years and the continued development of advanced technologies, the company says the name expresses its expanded expertise and inspection solutions now available to customers. Everything from sales to service — including new system purchases, measuring services, maintenance and repair (including Calypso SMAs and Zeiss Care) — is now organized under the new company. With that organizational change, it says it is able to provide even better sales, service and support.

Excellerant Partners With TriMech for Expanded Distribution — Excellerant and TriMech are partnering to give Excellerant’s Collaborative Manufacturing Platform wider distribution across the U.S. and Canada. Excellerant’s suite of data collection gathering, monitoring and reporting hardware and software tools are said to give manufacturers reliable shop connectivity solutions. This partnership follows TriMech’s acquisition of the Mastercam businesses of Macdac Engineering in December 2021. Excellerant was owned by Macdac Engineering before it incorporated as its own entity after that transaction. Currently, TriMech has 37 locations across the U.S. and Canada.

168 Manufacturing Adds U.S., Canada Distributors — 168 Manufacturing, a brand of Precision Tool Technologies that designs and develops CNC machine shop automation technologies, is partnering with six new North American distributors for its FullShop Automated Coolant Management Systems. The distributors will deliver 168 Manufacturing’s flagship FS120 series and newer FS40 series of automatic coolant delivery systems to end users across the U.S. and Canada.
