Hard turning can be a cost effective alternative for shops looking to streamline part processing.

The BX-26T compact turning center from Miyano is for complete machining of medium to high volume small parts and emulates cam-style automatic machine operation and also incorporates live tooling to complete complex parts in a single setup. The turning center features a unique double stack turret with four Z-axis live tools and 14 static tooling stations.

The GN-3200 ultra-precision turning center from Miyano Machinery has a 0. 1 micrometer (4 millionths) input tolerance and is especially useful for high-precision hard turning of small components that are traditionally finished on a grinding machine.

Miyano's ABX Super Turning Center models ABX-51TH3, ABX-51THY and ABX-51THB are equipped with two spindles and three turrets. They are capable of processing complex parts efficiently in a single setup.

Miyano's ABX051TH2 is capable of processing high-end parts efficiently in a single setup. Each of the upper two turrets on the left and right side features a Y-axis control. A lower turret, capable of working on both the left and right sides, makes a total of 36 tools (with all tool stations able to use live tools) available to perform complex simultaneous front and back operations in one setup.

Equipped with two spindles, three turrets and two Y axes, the ABX-64TH2 Super Turning Center is capable of processing parts efficiently in one setup, according to manufacturer Miyano. Each of the upper two turrets on the left and right side has a Y-axis control. Along with a lower turret, which is capable of working on both sides, the machine has a total of 36 tools available for simultaneous front and back operations.

The ABX series of CNC turning centers feature two symmetrical sets of spindles, different locations of turrets and Y-axis slides, allowing for single setup machining and fast throughput of complicated workpieces. On the DHY2 and SY models, a total of 24 tool stations (accepting as many as 24 live tools and 48 ID tools) perform simultaneous turning or milling operations. The TH2 model has a total of 36 live tool stations.

The BNJ Series of compact turning centers from Miyano are configured to perform simultaneous overlap machining. The series features a stationary main spindle with a turret on X, Y and Z axes and an R spindle on X and Z axes. While the main turret is working o the main spindle, the R spindle can simultaneously perform secondary functions on either the main turret (through an overlapping control) or on the backworking turret.

New from Miyano, the BX-26S gang tool lathe with two spindles offers complete part machining of complex bar work (1" diameter and under) in one setup. Two gang slides and a 3D linear turret further contributes to the lathe’s precision and quick cycle times, according to the company. The linear turret and traverse-type identical left and right spindles, both with 5 hp, promote stable cutting from end-to-end, making the machine appropriate for long shaft work, the company says.
