There are now sufficient safe cams available for detecting as many as 30 traversing ranges. Safe communication via standard Profibus between several Sinumerik 840D sl systems simplifies plant installation.

The company has expanded the functions of the workshop programs ShopTurn and ShopMill to reduce the programming time for CNC applications and increase productivity at the workshop level. Suited for cycle-controlled flatbed machines, inclined bed lathes and horizontal or vertical turning and milling centers, they are also suited for complex machining centers in machine tool building and mold making. In graphical programming, ShopTurn now supports complex complete lathes with swivel axes and associated milling spindles.

As companies continue to wrestle with offshore competitors, many are finding that the use of transfer machines aids the situation. Once used solely for dedicated machining of high-volume parts runs, transfer machines now give OEMs and job shops enhanced flexibility because of the improved onboard controls. Medium-quantity runs, as well as smaller batches of complex parts, are now suitable for properly equipped CNC transfer machines.

Brooklyn Technical Services selected the Siemens Sinumerik 802D panel-based control system for this creep feed grinding application because it provides a lot of value for the customer in a compact package.
